Mayor Bieter is recommending ordinances for short term rentals like Airbnb’s, to apply to rentals less than 30 days long and requiring owner occupation of the property. He says the change would help housing availability and pricing. Click here for a news item about it.

Reasons: rentals could affect neighborhood noise, traffic, and erode long-term renting or home-ownership. There would be four amendments to (1) require the owner to live on the property, (2) short-term rental approvals by the city, (3) no more than one rental unit allowed on the property, and (4) compliance with development code standards such as parking and noise.
